Through a Gothic Doorway

when I look into a doorway
two feet planted firmly on what I know
is “outside”
amazed that outside is beyond
and I am looking from out to out
it tells me that the reminders of God’s
blessings are not held up by
the miracle of stone relics,
lovely chiseled Saints and Sinners
pointed Gothic arches, the crowns of spires
it makes me laugh to look into
the holy doors and be treated
with the real bounty
that looking through and seeing the beauty
of the world, has long outlasted
the trappings of faith.
All of man’s efforts, can’t outshine
the earth, his gift to us
