The shimmering light of summer lingers
fall’s fragrance fills the air-
hummingbird trips to feeders wane-
geese fly off to I know not where.
I look beyond the deep dark woods where-
the oak still green with summer stands,
on stage of my mind, memory plays
of walks together hand in hand.
Thoughts repeat like a haunting tune
joys we shared on our sandy shore-
dancing through ripples ‘neath an august moon
stars seemed to sing forevermore.
Forevermore is yet to come
we wait together entwined as one.
