DaisiesNFld

Jess began writing 8-9 years ago and she remembers that the experience seemed somewhat natural for her, oddly familiar even. It began as a means of therapy really, a journal. she was keeping at the time to allow her to get her life into a better perspective. Then she began to realize that her words had a rhythm to them, an expression she was incapable of vocalizing, but a way of seeing herself as a whole person, with faults and attributes alike. The more she wrote, the more she began to understand herself and appreciate just what she was all about. And bingo, Daisies the poet came to be.

Daisies has been on-line approximately 9 years.

We know Jess as Daisies on AOL.  She has been a regular in the Late Night Poets Chat since approximately 2007.

She first discovered the room by accident really, finding it in the room listings, and thinks it is the best, and most comfortable poetry room online. There is camaraderie here, a network of support from loving, caring people that have your back, that help when they can, and never make you feel inferior regardless of what you post, good or bad.

Jess feels that the LNP Poets are among the most talented poets online, certainly the best I’ve read thus far.

1) Sewing: I’ve been sewing since a child, and now make most all my own clothes as well as sew for others as a side job. This includes everything from bridal/prom wear, to home furnishings and designing. I also create patterns, and do simple re-upholstery.

Favorite Poem:

“Hope”

is the thing with feathers

BY EMILY DICKINSON

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –

That perches in the soul –

And sings the tune without the words –

And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –

And sore must be the storm –

That could abash the little Bird

That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –

And on the strangest Sea –

Yet – never – in Extremity,

It asked a crumb – of me.

If you could meet any poet, who would it be?  Probably Emily Dickinson or Emma Wilcox

Why did you choose that poet? They were both women who struggled in an era to become known, and faced many obstacles in their lifetimes.

Current Projects: Gathering materials for ongoing re-upholstery projects. At this time, an antique swivel piano stool.

Favorite Quote:

“Have courage for the great sorrows of life, and patience for the small ones. When you have laboriously accomplished your daily tasks, to go sleep in peace. God is awake.” ~* Victor Hugo *~

As most have probably already noticed, my poetry tends to lean towards that of the past and nostalgic writing of old stories told me. I credit my Grandmother who lives with me for her wonderful stories of her own childhood, and those told her by her own Grandparents, and those handed down to them from generations past. They hold much fascination for me because they lived in an almost forgotten era that we fail to recognize for the value and morals it instilled in so many of us today. Long ago though it may be, it is a legacy kept alive for me through the eyes and memory of one who not only has lived it, but I embrace it today for all the wealth and wisdom it has to offer through a willingness to listen and learn. Whereas there is nothing new under the sun, there is yet much still to be passed on, treasured, and kept alive for those who follow in our footsteps.
