 I saw you at the laudromat;

 Like me

 A little out of place.

 There’s really no good
reason

 For being there is
there?…

Other than the obvious I mean.

 It means, like me, you
don’t own

 A washer and dryer.

 It means your life is

 Probably a little side tracked…

 And not very enviable.

 ~

 The people there smoke too
much

 And drink too much.

 They drive midsize Fords…

 And the gas gauge

 Always reads on the

 Down-side of a quarter
tank.

 I’m not trying to insult
you;

That’s just the way it is.

 The patrons watch too much
television

 And don’t see the inside

 Of a dentist office

 Too often…

If they see one at all.

 Sunday afternoons are busy

 At the laundromat;

 Kids running wild.

 People with no where else
to go.

 ~

And I hate to say it…

 The women

 Ain’t too attractive
either.

 Not a lot of possibilities

If you know what I mean.

 You see bulletin boards
with those

 Out of work classifieds

 And those little
“tear-off-stubs”

 That no body uses

 Because their welfare
checks

 Would dry up

 If they took the job.

 I hate to say it….

 But I’m saying it.

 ~

 And noisy?

 …too damned noisy

 With the rumble and
pounding

 Of washing machines

 Hammering away.

 And the inane clattering

 Of migrant workers playing
pinball.

 All in all it’s a
hell-of-a-place to be.

 ~

 Quite frankly…

I was surprised to see you
here.

 And when did you lose

 The tooth?
